Breakout Rolls is a tabletop actual play web series spotlighting grassroots gamemakers and one-shot experiences. Every episode, a different group of actors hilariously tackles a different independently produced tabletop game, while game master Russell Halvorson tries to reign in the chaos (or sometimes creates it).Through this show, we aim to introduce actors the power and fun of improvisational interactive storytelling, entertain the audience with a comedic show, and encourage tabletop fans to expand their horizons beyond Dungeons and Dragons.
"Actual Play" is a transformative artform that combines tabletop gameplay with improvisational storytelling. Every episode invites four actors to sit at the table with game master Russell Halvorson. While Russell presents the rules, the dice, and the setup, the actors are then responsible for creating their characters and collaboratively guiding the direction of the story.By creating their own characters and stepping into them, every actor who sits at the table also has a chance to workshop their craft in a safe and fun environment. The show is presented in a series of 6 episodes per season. You can watch one of them here! The first season of Breakout Rolls was launched in early 2025 through Octopunx TV. We aim to produce two new seasons back to back, before our beloved host Russell moves to Minnesota.

Above you can see our intended budget for the show. If we only raise about half that, we will produce Season 2 alone. But ultimately, making the seasons back to back saves on long term production expenses, and also ensures we can keep Russell as our host for at least two more years.
